Wounaan Indian Baskets

Collected by L.L. Baron, these world class baskets are absolutely astonishing! Just look at the incredible tight weave! Most of the baskets are water tight! Also, the strength of the walls of each basket is almost beyond comprehension. Made of all natural materials, their varieties of colors almost outshine a rainbow. The indigenous people that produce these baskets are primarily small women. If you are searching for a decorative meaningful masterpiece then this is it! If you are looking for authentic ethnographic material then this is it! All colors are extracted from plants, mud, fruit and trees. Sun bleached chunga (black palm fibers) are placed in boiling water with exact dye ingredients which results in colored chunga. The Wounaan are recognized by National Geographic’s august 1999 edition as being a vanishing culture. See page 64-65.
